What are grannyisms?
Grannyisms are those little pearls of wisdom that grandmothers are known for sharing any chance they get. The folks at Sweet Leaf Tea have popularized 78 of these phrases by numbering them and printing them underneath the caps of their glass-bottled teas and lemonade. Word on the street is they're holding a contest for the coveted grannyism #79. Of course, I've entered a bunch of grannyisms and you can vote for mine and help me win!
About Me...

Search the web for Angela C. Buraglia and you'll find a few different bios about me. What you won't find is another bio that includes any mention of how much I love Sweet Leaf Tea. You might find lots of twitter mentions though because I've definitely tweeted about my tea addiction!
I came to Austin, TX (home of Sweet Leaf Tea) in July of 2006 having lived in Southern California for over 30 years. I'll never forget the experience of the first time I tried Sweet Leaf Tea -- even if I can't recall the exact date... We stopped in our local pizzeria and as we waited we noticed there was a large plastic bottle of tea for sale. I immediately noticed it was organic, and made with real cane sugar so I thought we should give it a try.
That very first sip was a better "first experience" than... Never mind. It was good. Very good. No, frickin' amazing! Every time we picked up pizza we wanted more of that yummy tea with the granny on the label. Unfortunately, the pizza place rarely seemed to have it in stock. Our local grocery store didn't carry it, and I found myself craving Sweet Leaf Tea, unable to get my fix.
I mentioned my difficulty locating my new favorite tea to someone (I wish I could remember who so I could properly thank them) and they told me that I could get it at Whole Foods. (I guess I could also blame/thank them for getting me hooked on Whole Foods too.) I stocked up on tea every time we visited Whole Foods and was pleased to learn there was a 10% case discount. It wasn't long before our local grocery store started carrying a variety of Sweet Leaf flavors.
My favorite flavor is original. (I'm still grieving the loss of the Mango flavor, but I'm coping.) Our fridge is pretty much always stocked with original, half & half, lemon, citrus, and mint & honey. My husband and son are big fans of Sweet Leaf Tea too, but I think I'm the biggest fan in our family. They both love the lemon flavor best.
Over the last 5 years I've watched as Sweet Leaf Tea has gained in popularity and availability. Naturally, I became a follower of @SweetLeafTea on twitter and a fan on facebook. My fandom grew to the point where I had to embroider a koozie to hold my tea.
Now I like to boast that I've been drinking their tea since before they were consistently printing grannyisms under the caps and when they were present the grannyisms weren't numbered. I remember feeling like I got gipped any time I got a blank cap. To this day, I get excited to see what grannyism is revealed beneath the lid. I found it so much fun that I decided to start saving caps in hopes to collect all 78. Eventually I plan on making a bar counter-top with them displayed in numerical order. The trouble is, my collection is incomplete so I may no't get to lay them out in order as we'd planned. I haven't given up though!
My fondness continued to grow and so I purchased grannyisms.com in August of 2009 with plans to start sharing pictures of my caps with their grannyisms displayed. (I don't know why it took me so long to finally do this site, because it didn't take all that long to put this together. Whatever the cause, I'm glad I finally got around to it.) At this point, it was clear to my family that I was addicted to Sweet Leaf Tea and developed a bit of an obsession with it. How can anyone blame me for that though? I mean really; really it's just that good.
When my husband and I got married on July 10th of 2010, we wanted our wedding to be filled with things we love. First and foremost, our family. Sadly, I have no living grandparents. The only granny I've got is on my beloved Sweet Leaf Tea so we decided it was a must-have beverage at our wedding.
The moment I saw the chaise in the bride's dressing room, I knew I had to take a vintage photo with a drink. Yeah, I'm a bit fanatic, I know... It's just that Sweet Leaf Tea is one of those things that you taste and get so excited about that you want everyone to try it. So if you haven't yet tried it, do it... you'll fall in love, just as I did.
The winner is... #79 A WATCHED POT NEVER BOILS!
Thank you to everyone who voted for me in The Great Grannyism Cap Off Contest by Sweet Leaf Tea. I'm stunned and excited to have won 1st prize for A Watched Pot Never Boils!
I'm so very grateful to everyone who helped me make top 5 and to the staff at Sweet Leaf Tea for picking my grannyism among the the four other very worthy contenders.
Congrats to the 4 runners up! May you enjoy your Sweet Leaf Tea in the year to come as much as I will; cheers! ~Angela
